Edge AI Australia is a reference for people who have to make AI work on real hardware: embedded engineers, robotics teams, operations managers and product owners deciding whether a model belongs on a device, a local server or in the cloud.
The site has two parts. The directory lists Australian companies working on edge and embedded AI, machine vision and robots, from engineering firms that design custom systems to product companies selling proven platforms. The guides cover the engineering decisions behind those projects:
- Choosing edge AI hardware: GPU modules, accelerators, phones and microcontrollers
- Quantisation and distillation: shrinking models without losing the accuracy that matters
- Edge AI vs cloud AI: where each part of a pipeline should run
- On-device AI and privacy: designing around the Australian Privacy Principles
- Edge AI in mining: on-site AI for remote and hazardous operations
- Defence, space and maritime: AI for disconnected, power-limited platforms
How we research
Company details come from each company's own website, checked when a listing is added or updated, plus public sources such as government and research pages where they exist. Technical claims in the guides link to primary sources: vendor documentation from NVIDIA, Google, Hailo and Apple, regulators such as the OAIC, and Australian Government pages. Where a figure is a vendor's own claim, we say so.
We don't publish prices, benchmarks or client names that we can't trace to a source. Where a guide works through an example, it uses a hypothetical project and leaves out numbers rather than inventing them.
What we leave out
We don't list companies whose websites no longer load, that have been bought by another company, or whose current work has moved away from on-device AI, vision and robotics. If we can't confirm a detail such as a founding year, we leave it blank rather than estimate it.
Corrections
Hardware ranges, product names and company details change quickly. If something here is out of date or wrong, tell us through the contact page, ideally with a link to the source, and we'll check it and update the page.
